On October 15, we celebrate International Day of Rural Women to highlight their contribution to sustainable development and food security. One example is beekeeping - where women are becoming leaders of change and symbols of gender equality. Through UNDP's Aid for Trade project, we are creating opportunities for women in beekeeping. In the next two years, 100 jobs will be created in the Issyk-Kul, Osh and Naryn regions, half of them for women! Beekeeping, once considered a “man's business”, is now inspiring women to become successful businesswomen and export their products abroad. Women beekeepers are not only strengthening their families, but also contributing to conservation and the development of their communities. Together we are proving that a sustainable future is possible when everyone has equal opportunities. All this week, we will be sharing the inspiring stories of our women beekeepers.
