For a village facing water shortages, the introduction of this water-saving technology is an important step towards more efficient use of limited water resources. The drip irrigation system delivers water directly to the roots of plants, reducing water losses and ensuring timely and targeted irrigation.

The new technology enables households to use available water resources more efficiently, improve the cultivation of vegetables and increase crop yields. It also contributes to strengthening household food security and creating additional income opportunities through the sale of surplus produce.

As part of the initiative, agronomists provide on-site consultations and regular technical support to participating households. Specialists advise families on vegetable cultivation, proper irrigation schedules and the effective use of drip irrigation systems.

The introduction of water-saving technology is particularly important for local communities facing increasing water scarcity and the impacts of climate change on agriculture. More efficient water management can help reduce household vulnerability and strengthen communities’ capacity to adapt to changing climatic conditions.

The initiative also contributes to strengthening the food security of rural households, expanding their economic opportunities and increasing the resilience of the local community.

The activities are being implemented under the UNDP project “Women of the Fergana Valley on the Frontlines of Climate Change, Adaptation and Peace.”

The experience of Madaniyat village demonstrates how water-saving technologies can provide a practical response to water scarcity while contributing to increased agricultural productivity, food security and improved livelihoods for rural families.
